The problem with child vision screening in school.

Dry EyeYour child’s vision is essential to their success in school. When their vision suffers, chances are their schoolwork does, too.

Vision problems are common among school-age kids. According to research, one in four school-age children have vision problems that, if left untreated, can affect learning ability, personality and adjustment in school.

School-age children also spend a lot of time in recreational activities that require good vision. After-school team sports or playing in the backyard aren’t as fun if you can’t see well.

The problem with vision screening for children

Vision screening performed by paediatricians or school nurses is NOT a comprehensive eye examination. They merely alert parents to the possibility of a visual problem.

Vision screenings are helpful but they can miss serious problems that an optometrist can catch.

Even if children fail vision screenings they do not get the follow up care they need due to poor communication and reporting.

The best way to ensure that your child has the visual skills to excel in and out of the classroom is to schedule a comprehensive eye examination with an optometrist.

LipiView® upgrade – Dry Eye Treatment now more affordable

DRY EYE TREATMENT – Guaranteed improvements.

LipiView is a diagnostic device for patients with Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), which is linked to Evaporative Dry Eye, the most common type of Dry Eye Disease.

The LipiView technology provides detailed images of your tear film so our doctors can measure the thickness of the lipid (oil) layer (the layer responsible for lubrication and tear evaporation). It’s painless, takes about 5 minutes, and involves simply looking into a camera and blinking normally. Our optometrist gets a detailed image that measures lipid layer thickness between blinks to determine the extent of MGD. LipiView is the diagnostic first half of the LipiFlow treatment, which uses controlled warmth and gentle pressure in order to unclog blocked meibomian glands.

LipiView is the first of its kind. At Classic Eyes EYE CARE CENTRE in Poole we are proud to be one of the few clinics in the UK (and the only one in Dorset) to offer this advanced technology.

Since launching this treatment we have helped hundreds of sufferers. The only stumbling block was the cost as it uses very expensive computerised disposable eye ‘cups’. Due to a worldwide uptake these consumables are now much more affordable. Please pop in to our Poole store for more information.

No excuse – FREE NHS eye tests for kids

FREE NHS EYE TESTS FOR CHILDREN

Please don’t delay – we so often see children with vision problems that must have caused learning problems during crucial development years. Don’t assume you know whether your child has a vision problem – bring them to the experts!

Children don’t tend to complain about their vision. Please take them for an eye test to ensure the continued health of their eyes and sight. It is recommended that children have an eye test every two years, and it is FREE on the NHS.
